At Lift Newlands we recognise the importance of literacy and oracy skills and give them the highest priority across the curriculum so that pupils develop the skills they need to improve their learning now and as they get older.
We regularly assess pupils and provide individualised intervention programmes to ensure all pupils reach their potential. Our Literacy Assistant, Miss Sophie, tutors pupils using the research based programme 'Fresh Start' on a 1-1 basis to improve their phonics skills and knowledge. In addition, we use Lexia and small group sessions to improve all pupils Literacy skills and we also have a Whole School reading programme involving Library visits to our refurbished library, Word of the Week competitions and Tutor class reading sessions.
